Guardiola set to sign new deal commits to C/league chase

Pep Guardiola has assured Manchester City bosses he is more determined than ever to win the Champions League.

And to prove it, Guardiola is poised to sign a contract extension this summer that will keep him at the Etihad until 2025.

The English champions were left devastated on Wednesday night after crashing out of the semi finals to Real Madrid in the Bernabeu. City lost 6-5 on aggregate after conceding two Rodrygo goals in stoppage time, before Karim Benzema’s penalty extra time penalty ruined their hopes of a dream final against bitter rivals Liverpool.

The crushing loss means Guardiola has still not landed club football’s biggest prize in six attempts since taking charge in 2016.

The latest failure has led to speculation the Spaniard could walk out on City when his current deal runs out at the end of next season.

But Guardiola is relishing the chance to work with Erling Haaland, who is expected to join the club this summer in a £67m deal. Guardiola is convinced the striker will make all the difference when it comes to conquering Europe.

And he has told Chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak he wants three more cracks at ending his Champions League hoodoo before calling time on his spell at the Etihad.

Guardiola knows he has unfinished business and is determined to complete the job City gave him when luring him to Manchester from Bayern Munich.
