How Messi responded to Barca’s new contract offer

With Barcelona having reportedly presented Lionel Messi with a new deal to avoid losing him to potential suitors such as Paris Saint-Germain, here is how the Argentine is said to have responded to the club’s offer.

The 33-year-old could leave the Catalan giants as a free agent at the end of the season if he does not extend his stay at the club beyond the 2020/21 campaign.

Messi, however, has been offered a new contract by president Joan Laporta, who returned to the club earlier this year having previously served as the club’s chief between 2003 and 2010.

According to Spanish journalist Marcal Lorente of Tier1, though, the player and his father Jorge, who works as his agent, are not entirely happy with Barcelona’s offer.

Their disappointment, though, does not mean they will end negotiations with the Blaugrana, with Messi reportedly eager to strike a deal with the club.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has been linked with a move to PSG in recent months, while Manchester City have also shown a strong interest in securing his signature should he decide to leave Spain.
