Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has declared his readiness to play the holding midfielder role as
long as it secures victory for the team in all their games at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The Eagles captain was responding to a statement from his fornmer Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho who
said Mikel is better as a defensive player and called on head coach Gernot Rohr to use him in his familiar role in subsequent matches.

“I have worked with Mourinho for a long time and he knows me very well. I have played in this advanced
role for close to 2 years now and people never complained until we lost this game. I understand the
feelings of everyone because of the result and how we played.

“”Personally, I am ready to play anywhere the coach wants me to play. I am comfortable with any of the
roles, whether in a more offensive or defensive role. The most important thing is the team.

Mikel is confident that the Super Eagles will get their World Cup campaign back on track with a win
against Iceland on Friday.

”We are focused. We are ready. We want to win. We know that we need a victory against Iceland to stay
in the tournament and we are doing everything in training to make that happen,” he added.

in the afternoon before they face Iceland.
