I did not take Dennerby’s job– Acting Falcons coach cries out

Acting Super Falcons, Chris Danjuma has explained why he accepted to lead the women’s national team for the 2020 Olympic qualifier against Cote dÍvore with the first leg scheduled for October 30.

The Nasarawa Amazon tactician attributed it to national interest despite the fact that he needed to rest after leading the U-20 women’s national team to the Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco where they won the gold medal.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) drafted the Falconets coach to handle the women’s senior team following the unknown whereabouts of head coach, Thomas Dennerby.

” I am not here to take over from anybody but to serve my country Nigeria. Ordinarily, I need to rest after All Africa Games but this is my country I can’t say no. I am ready to work with anybody in any capacity as deemed fit by the football house. The most important thing is to qualify for the Olympics having missed out for almost 12 years. All we need is commitment, prayers, and support from Nigerians,” Danjuma told Sportinglife.ng

He added that his focus was to defeat their Francophone opponents away to make the return leg an easy one.

” My focus now is to beat Cote d’Ivoire in Abidjan to make the return leg a mere formality. Nigeria is the number one female football in Africa and we must prove it by qualifying in Africa without going for playoff which may not be in our flavour. Ivorians are good that we can’t take away from them but I don’t see them stopping super falcons from progressing to the next round of the qualifier.

He said 28 players are in camp and must show that they are the number one female football in Africa by picking the ticket to avoid a playoff encounter with Chile already waiting for the Africa runners-up in the qualifying series.
