Ighalo to start from the bench against Egypt

Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has disclosed that even though Odion Ighalo’s ankle injury showed a lot of progress after he joined the rest of his colleagues to train, he will have to start from the bench against Egypt in today’s friendly.

He said he initially thought that the China based striker won’t be involved at all in the friendly game with the Pharaohs of Egypt but that the attacker has has made tremendous progress and that if there is no relapse before the start of the game.

“Ighalo was at the training this morning(yesterday) but he will be on the bench against Egypt,” Rohr told journalists.

The coach also opined that he will make changes to the team that started against Seychelles with Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa expected to be involved in the first half and second half respectively.

He also said that there will be changes in the defence, midfield and the attack because it is resolve to try as many players as possible in the game with the Pharaohs.

“The two goalkeepers will play tomorrow (today). Daniel (Akpeyi) will start and Ezenwa will finish the game,” Rohr continued.

“The four players that were deployed to the Under 23 will be with us on the bench against Egypt to assure them that we are together. There will be changes from the goalkeeper to the attack because we want to try as much as possible to test as many players as possible.”
