I’m ready to return for AFCON action – Yusuf insists

Alhassan Yusuf has declared he is in good shape again after struggling with injury at the start of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Yusuf copped a thigh injury in Nigeria’s opening game against Equatorial Guinea’s Nzalang Nacional.

The Nigeria international missed the Super Eagles’ remaining two group matches against Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau no thanks to injury setback.

However, the midfielder, returned to the sub bench for Nigeria’s match with Cameroon in the Round of 16 tie.

“I’m in good shape now, no discomfort or injury again,” Yusuf said after Monday’s training session at the Police College, Cocody, Abidjan.

“I’m ready to play again, but the coach will decide when he wants me to play. The team is doing well and that is the most important thing.”

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will battle Angola’s Black Antelopes in their quarter-final at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan on Friday.
