For their performance at the just concluded ITTF World Team Championships held in Halmstad, Sweden, Nigeria’s quartet of Aruna Quadri, Segun Toriola, Bode Abiodun and Olajide Omotayo to get improved world ranking for May 2018.

For their performance at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as well as in Sweden, they have garnered more points to add to their previous points in April.

Quadri who is ranked 26 in the world may be up a little as most of the players in the world also featured at the World Championships.

The likes of Toriola, Omotayo and Abiodun will indeed benefit immensely from their performance.

Toriola who improved from 261 to 166 in April following his quarterfinal exit at the Africa Top 16 Cup in Kenya will surely move close to top 100.

Omotayo ranked 215 will surely move to the top 200 while Abiodun will also shore up his world rating.

According to the ITTF new ranking system, players now amass points from their wins while no point will be deducted for losing.

The new system has been hailed by players who believe that this would help the active ones to amass points for taking part in major competitions across the globe.

The May 2018 ranking is expected to be released this week by the world table tennis governing body with the possibility of Egypt’s Omar Assar still maintaining his rating as the best ranked African player in the world. Assar’s victory over former world number one in Sweden, may rub off positively on his rating this month.
