Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has heaped praises on Nigeria soccer fans for the support they gave the team during the country’s World Cup games in Russia which he has described as amazing.

Iwobi who was part of Nigeria’s World Cup team believes that his exposure under former Arsenal
manager Arsene Wenger will give him the edge to fight for a shirt under the new coach, Unai Emery.

“Honestly speaking, the fans gave us absolute support, they were amazing, especially during the
Argentina match but unfortunately we couldn’t reciprocate as we planned but I believe we will make it
up in the subsequent tournament,” said Iwobi.

“We are looking forward to the new EPL season, and our priority is to adapt to the coach’s style and make the club proud. Emery is a coach with experience and I am ready to prove my worth to him.”

Speaking about Nigeria’s ouster at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he said: “It was a good
experience for me as a young player, and the exposure was very amazing but I am a bit disappointed that
we couldn’t make it to the next round as determined. But once again, I will need to apologise to the
fans, and urge them to keep their hopes alive for the team in subsequent tournaments.”
