Juventus confirm Bonucci out with thigh injury

Juventus have confirmed that Leonardo Bonucci suffered a thigh muscle injury in their Europa League semi-final draw with Sevilla.

The 36-year-old Italian centre back started the European semi-final in Turin on May 11 and was forced off the pitch after 61 minutes, looking pained as he held his thigh.

He was replaced by Federico Gatti, who went on to score the equaliser in the 97th minute of the tense clash, keeping things level heading into the second leg.

Bonucci has struggled with injuries already this season, missing six consecutive Serie A matches with an adductor muscle issue back in January and February.

As announced by Juventus, medical tests carried out this morning confirmed that Bonucci suffered a low-grade injury of the adductor longus muscle of his left thigh, an issue that’ll likely keep him out of action for around 15 days.

As such, the Italian veteran is not expected to feature in the Bianconeri’s upcoming games against Cremonese, Sevilla and Empoli, and could also miss the game against Milan on May 28.
