La Liga confirm Memphis registration as Eric Garcia waits

Barcelona can breath a sigh of relief as La Liga have now confirmed that Memphis Depay’s documents are all in order and he has been registered to play.

This means that the Dutchman, one of the Blaugrana’s big hopes for this season, will be eligible to face Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou on Sunday night.

However, the Catalan club are still waiting on confirmation regarding Eric Garcia’s registration as LaLiga’s economic control and competitions bodies review the relevant documents and regulations.

Early on Saturday, Barcelona had claimed that both players had been registered, thanks to Gerard Pique taking a significant wage reduction, but LaLiga later released a statement saying that this was not the case.

“In relation to Barcelona’s statement this morning regarding the registration of the players Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia in LaLiga, the organisation wishes to clarify the following,” began the LaLiga statement.

“The documentation relating to said registrations had not been submitted by Barcelona at the time of their public statement, but it was on [Saturday] afternoon, after LaLiga informed the club of this fact.

“The documentation is being reviewed by LaLiga’s economic control and competitions bodies to check it complies with the relevant regulations.”

Now that Memphis’ registration has been confirmed, it may merely be a matter of time until Garcia’s name is also added to the list, but Blaugrana fans know by now to take nothing for granted.
