La Liga: Etebo’s Getafe thrash Omeruo’s Leganes

Oghenekaro Etebo’s Getafe were not intimidated by the pre-match atmosphere at Butarque as they came into Leganes’ home and netted three first-half goals en route to a 3-0 victory.

Leandro Cabrera, Allan Nyom and Jaime Mata all got on the scoresheet for Los Azulones in a dominating first 45 minutes, while the second period saw them simply manage the game.

Just 12 minutes in, Cabrera grabbed the opener. Marc Cucurella took a short corner to Damian Suarez and the right-back put in a wonderful cross into the box, which saw Cabrera rise above the Leganes defenders and head past Ivan Cuellar.

Cucurella was then involved in Getafe’s second, playing in a floated cross towards the right-hand side of the box which was headed in by Nyom.

The Cameroon international rose highest to get his head on the ball, with it then hitting the underside of the crossbar and bouncing beyond the line.

Having played for Leganes last season and received some criticism from the home supporters, Nyom’s celebration was rather unique as he ran uncontrollably before finding the Getafe fans in the corner of the ground.

Curiously, Nyom was then withdrawn in the 31st minute as he had already picked up a yellow card after quarter of an hour and then, following his celebration, it was clear that he was fired up. Jose Bordalas thus opted to bring him off for new signing Etebo, clearly fearful that Nyom may pick up a second card.

Two minutes later, Getafe made it 3-0. Leganes playmaker Oscar Rodriguez saw his cross into the box cleared by the Getafe defence, with the ball falling to one of the away side’s players.

Kenneth Omeruo thought he had won the ball but he instead collided into one of his teammates, which put Jorge Molina through on goal, though he was still 40 yards from goal.

The 37-year-old showed his experience by carrying the ball forward and then sitting down Jonathan Silva before passing to Jaime Mata, who had an empty net to poke the ball into.

There were some ugly scenes in the 90th minute as Ruben Perez received a red card after fouling Hugo Duro and then pushing Jaime Mata to the ground, once the Getafe No.7 complained about the Leganes midfielder’s challenge on Duro.

The performance on the night seesGetafe move up to fifth spot in the La Liga log, while Leganes have remain 19th after missing the chance to climb out of the relegation zone.
