La Liga Opener: Leganes sweat over Omeruo’s fitness

Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo is in a race against time to be fit for CD Leganes first game of the 2020/21 La Liga Smartbank season with UD Las Palmas this Friday at the Butarque Municipal Stadium.
Omeruo who featured prominently in his club’s pre-season activities suffered some discomfort in their last test game against Albacete on Sunday and he is a doubt for their season opener.
The Nigerian could only make the bench in their final two games of last season in the La Liga Santander against Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid after he was out for two weeks owing to another injury he suffered in their 3-0 home loss to Sevilla on June 30 before their relegated.
Omeruo started all their four pre-season games before he was replaced by Mejias in the 12th minute of their test game with Albacete which ended goalless.
The club website noted that Leganes head coach, Jose Luis Marti would have to do without the former Chelsea defender and partner Rodri Tarin who also got substituted in the seventh minute of the same game.
