Leicester congratulates Ndidi after Nigeria bounce back to defeat Benin

Premier League side, Leicester City have congratulated midfielder, Wilfred Ndid after Nigeria came from behind to beat the Squirrels of Benin Republic 2-1 in a Group L encounter of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations at the Giodswill Akpabio Stadium on Wednesday.

The Foxes who are third on the premier league table are monitoring the progress of their players that are on international duty for their respective countries.

“”Wilfred Ndidi plays 90 minutes during Nigeria’s 2-1 win against Republic of Benin on Tuesday.  Luke Thomas was an unused substitute in England Under-19s’ 4-0 triumph against Luxembourg. A further four Foxes could be in action for their nations on Thursday,” read the statement on the club’s official website.

Ndidi who dons the number four shirt for Nigeria was on from start to finish.

Stéphane Sessègnon, formerly of West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland, opened the scoring with just five minutes on the clock for Benin before Lille’s Victor Osimhen levelled from the spot on the stroke of half-time.

Samuel Kalu sealed it for the host in the 63rd minute.

On Sunday the Eagles will continue their 2021 AFCON qualifying campaign with an encounter with Lesotho at Setsoto Stadium in Maseru.
