Fabio Grosso has officially been dismissed from his position as head coach of Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais after just seven league matches in charge of the club.
The French club issued a press release on Thursday afternoon informing supporters that Pierre Sage will take charge of Lyon on a temporary basis, assisted by Jeremie Brechet, Jean-Francois Vuillez and goalkeeping coach Remy Vercoutre.

This means that Grosso’s backroom staff of Raffaele Longo, Francesco Vaccariello, Vittorio Carello and Mauro Carretta have also been given their marching orders.
Grosso and his team had only taken over at Lyon on September 16, having replaced Laurent Blanc after a disastrous start to the season, which left the team in the relegation zone after picking up just one point from the opening four games of the season.
Perhaps the most newsworthy event of his return to Lyon was his unfortunate injury prior to a scheduled league fixture against Marseille.
As the Lyon squad made their way to Marseille’s Stade Velodrome, home supporters attacked the team bus, which left Grosso with serious facial injuries, requiring many stitches upon arrival at the stadium.
At present, Lyon sit at the bottom of the Ligue 1 table with seven points from 12 matches, but are still within five points of safety with 22 league matches remaining in 2023-24.
The 2006 World Cup winner did guide Lyon to their first league win of the season against Rennes prior to the recent international break, but that was his only win in charge of his former club.
During his spell in France, Grosso had a record of one win, two draws and four losses from seven matches.
