Ligue 1: Pochettino plays down possible injury to Mbappé

With Kylian Mbappe requiring medical assistance in Saturday’s match, alarms were raised for PSG. The Frenchman tried to finish the match, but could be seen limping badly towards the end. He ended up being subbed off, but at the end of the match coach Mauricio Pochettino tried to calm down PSG’s worried fans. It might have just been a knock.

Was it just a scare, or has Mbappé injured himself three days away from the Champions League semi-finals? Mauricio Pochettino assured that he was substituted as a precaution, and that an initial exam has confirmed that it could be just an impact injury.

He fell over cutching his knees, at which point PSG looked on in silence. Had one of their great stars injured himself? The medics entered the pitch and Mbappe got up as best he could. He came back on the pitch limping and continued to limp as he back into the match.

He tried to continue, but he was only able to run once more before being changed. He left the pitch as he had entered – limping. And it was fair to be worried about the health of the striker.

In the press conference after the match, Mauricio Pochettino gave a medical update on his big star in an attempt to calm down the PSG fans. “He received a knock in the quad and for this reason I took him off”, he assured.

In other words, the problem looks to be muscular and not in the joints, which is without doubt great news for PSG. “I think it’s just a knock”, the Argentine added. If this is true, the star would be available for the Champions League semi-finals, however he will need more tests. There will be uncertainty until the end.
