Man Utd to go all out for Sancho, despite interest in Chelsea rebel
Borussia Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho reportedly remains Manchester United’s top summer target, despite talk linking Willian to the club.
The Evening Standard claim the England attacker is the priority for Solskjaer this summer as he looks for the missing links that will turn United into title contenders.
“We know we lack one, two, three players to be considered a title contender and some experience. We know that,” said the Norwegian after Sunday’s impressive 2-0 win over Man City at Old Trafford.
United chief Ed Woodward has vowed to continue reviving the club’s fortunes in the summer with the “same planned, disciplined approach” to transfers.
“This season is one of rebuild, with many changes to the squad – in terms of players who have left or gone out on loan; new players who we have brought into the club; and academy graduates that we have brought through to the first team.
“This process will continue as we implement our plan and our footballing vision under Ole and his coaching staff,” said Woodward last month.
And 19-year-old Sancho has risen to the top of United’s wanted list after an impressive 18 months in the Bundesliga. The former Man City attacker has hit 17 goals and grabbed 19 assists this term, on the back of 13 goals and 19 assists last season.
United though are also believed to have an interest in Chelsea winger Willian.
The Brazilian was a target for United under Jose Mourinho, and he remains on United’s list of targets with Le 10 Sport reporting United are one of three clubs serious about the 31-year-old.
Willian, who scored in Chelsea’s 4-0 demolition of Everton on Sunday, remains a favourite of Frank Lampard’s but his future looks in doubt with his contract expiring in the summer.
Only last month Willian revealed Chelsea had offered him another two-year contract, but the winger was holding out for three years.
“Chelsea offered me two years, and they are not going to change what they offered,” Willian told Esporte Interativo after Chelsea’s defeat by Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
“I said I wanted three more years. The situation is difficult because of this, I really don’t know if it will be possible.
Lampard has since admitted that the timing wasn’t “ideal” on Willian’s interview about his contract situation and suggested their could still be common ground sought between the parties.
