MANCHESTER UNITED close to signing Ajax star de Ligt

Manchester United have reportedly beaten Barcelona to Matthijs de Ligt.

The Dutchman has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in recent weeks, as United looked set to miss out.

De Ligt has attracted the interest of a number of Champions League sides.

And this looked like ruling United out due to the fact they will be playing Europa League football next season.

But a new report this evening suggests Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side may yet sign De Ligt in the coming weeks.

“Manchester United has made an irreproachable proposal to the Dutch Central,” tweeted the station’s official account.

“Right now, the player is very close to the Reds.”

As mentioned, Barcelona have been the long-time front-runners for a deal.
