Maradona’s lawyer seeks probe into arrival time of ambulance

Diego Maradaona’s longtime lawyer and agent Matias Morla wants an investigation launched regarding the arrival time of an ambulance to the soccer legend’s residence.

Maradona died Tuesday at age 60 following a heart attack, his spokesman Sebastián Sanchi said.

In a statement posted in Spanish on social media Thursday, Morla wrote that according to a report from the San Isidro district attorney’s office, the ambulance took more than half an hour to arrive at Marodna’s home. He called the tardiness “criminal idiotez,” or “criminal idiocy.”

“I cannot look past this fact and I am going to ask that they investigate this to the fullest extent,” he added.

Maradona led Argentina to the 1986 World Cup title and is widely considered one of the greatest soccer players ever. Thousands gathered Thursday at the country’s presidential palace in Buenos Aires to honor the legend.

“Today is a day of profound pain, sadness and reflection,” Morla said at the beginning of his statement. “I feel in my heart the departure of a friend, who I honored with my loyalty and accompaniment until his final days.

“May you rest in peace, brother.”
