‘Mikel is great but Okocha is Eagles’ all-time best’

Ex-Super Eagles  midfielder Austin Okocha was the maestro of his generation and an exceptional footballer who dazzled everybody including his own teammates.

‘Jay Jay’ as he was fondly called by7 fans and admirers iconized the number 10 jersey as the commander on the pitch at any time and his impact in Nigerian football sets him apart as the best football of all time.

According to his former Super Eagles teammate, Daniel Amokachi, Jay Jay was exceptional.

‘There are several eras in our football and several people will have their favorites from the list of great players like Mathematical Segun Odegbami, Adokiye Amesiamaka, Mudashiru Lawal, Jay-Jay Okocha and Mikel Obi,’ Amokachi explained.

‘But, if you were talking about winning laurel, certainly Mikel Obi is the greatest because he won everything you could win as a player; the Champions League, Europa, and the 2013 AFCON.

‘So, naturally, Mikel will be the greatest Nigerian player ever, but for me, the best of all time is Jay-Jay Okocha, period.’

Egypt is a country where I’ve started and have finished my National career. In 2006 I played my first official championship for my Country. 2019 African Cup of Nations marks my last championship for National Team with Super Eagles. My national career started in 2003 under 17 World Cup and I’m grateful for the national team for placing me on the world arena and giving me an opportunity to show my skill and have an incredible National and International career. At the age of 32 it’s time for me to retire from the National team and let the youth take over, who’ve done an amazing job securing a bronze medal at AFCON 2019. Thank you to all my Nigerian supporters and to my Country for all the trust, support and love you’ve shown me over the past 15 years. Mikel am out!
