Mikel would have ruined my career–Clattenburg

Mark Clattenburg says former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi would have ruined his career after accusing him of making a racist comment during a league match which happened eight years ago.

Chelsea’s Nigerian midfielder John Mikel Obi (R) talking with referee Mark Clattenburg (2nd R) as Spanish midfielder Juan Mata (L) looks on during the English Premier League football match between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in London.

According to him, other Chelsea players have since apologized but nothing from Mikel.

“I have picked Mikel because of the incident during a Chelsea v Manchester United match in 2012 when he accused me of making a racist comment, which was not right and I was later cleared by the FA”.

“He has never apologized and that is disappointing because it could have ruined my life”.

He claimed Mikel only heard the allegation from his team-mate Ramires, who did not speak English.
