Moses retirement shocked me–Rohr

Nigeria’s Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr has revealed how shocked he was when Victor Moses informed him of his decision to quit the national team.

The 27-year-old quit the national team after representing the Country at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in June citing family issues and club commitment as reasons. The Eagles coach said his reasons were not enough to retire.

”I have to admit that it did come as a surprise, but we had to accept it. He wanted to focus more on his family and club.

”Unfortunately he is now not playing regularly at Chelsea. He is only 27 and it really was a bit surprising, but we have to live with it. We tried to find a replacement for him and found Kalu from Bordeaux, who has done well so far,”said Rohr to Kick Off Magazine.

Moses was part of the Nigeria squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa under the late Stephen Keshi and the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

In 38 appearances for the Eagles he scored 13 goals with the last coming against Argentina from the penalty spot during the preliminary stage of the World Cup.

Moses exit from the national team, has however opened the door for Bordeaux signing Samuel Kalu to shine.
