Nigerians love you, Enyeama tells Ikeme

Former Nigeria international Vincent Enyeama has called on Wolverhampton Wanderers of England goalkeeper Carl Ikeme to stop feeling dejected after an unfortunate health challenge stopped him from featuring at the FIFA World Cup with the Super Eagles.

Enyeama who was moved after reading Ikeme’s tweet assured the keeper that Nigerians would continue to love him having played a significant role that led to the Country’s World Cup qualification.

On this basis, Enyeama,  a three-time World Cup participant charged Ikeme to remain strong.

“Be strong. Get well bro. We love you. Naija people love you. God be with you,” Enyeama tweeted on Saturday.

Saturday’s tweet would be the first by Enyeama to Ikeme who took over as the Eagles first choice in 2015.

“To say I’m devastated about missing the World Cup is a understatement. But I just want to thank everyone in Nigerian for their prayers, love and messages. I can’t explain how much they mean to me.️ I also want to wish my teammates, coaches and NFF luck for the summer coming,” Ikeme wrote on his handle on Friday.

Last Tuesday, Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr named Ikeme an honorary member of the World Cup squad to Russia.

“Until the last moment, there is a possibility of bringing in these players. Carl Ikeme will be our 24th player to the World Cup,” said Rohr.

Ikeme who was diagnosed with acute leukemia on July 6, 2017 has made 10 caps for Nigeria and was Man of the Match in the Eagles opening qualifier against Zambia in Ndola in October 2016.
