No new Real Madrid offer for Ramos as he nears end of contract

Real Madrid have not offered Sergio Ramos a new deal and won’t discuss fresh terms with the player until next season, reports in Spain claim.

The 34-year-old is currently tied down at the Bernabeu until 2021, but it has been claimed that Los Blancos do not see his contract renewal as a priority.

According to Spanish news outlet AS, Real run the risk in allowing Ramos to become a free agent by the time next summer’s European Championship comes around.

They state that the LaLiga giants are yet to make contact with the centre-back’s brother and agent Rene.

And they even add that prior to the coronavirus crisis, the club didn’t see Ramos’ contract running down as something to worry about.

AS claim that they will enter negotiations with the player next year, where they will only consider offering him a one-year deal.

Ramos would like his stay extended until 2023, though in February he revealed that he knows that it is not club policy.

He admitted: “I understand that at a certain age they do it from year to year.”
It has even been suggested that as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ramos may even be offered less money.

However that shouldn’t be an issue for Ramos, as he stated last year that he would play for Real for free when discussing his future after being linked with a move to China.

The former Manchester United target said: “It is true that I have an offer from China on the table, I will not lie about it. The wage does not matter to me. I would play for Real Madrid for free.

“We have not talked about the economic issue. For me the relationship with a club is always about trust and an affection.”

Before adding: “I am Madridista. I want to retire here. If I ever leave here, it will be when I’m winning. The best decision has always been to talk face to face and resolve any issues.

“I have never had an issue with the president (Florentino Perez). Our relationship is like a father and son.”

Ramos – who joined Real in 2005 from Sevilla – has made 640 appearances for the club, and has scored an incredible 91 goals.
