In May 2017, Aina, who had represented England at under-16, under-17, under-18, under-19 and England
under-20 levels, pledged his international future to Nigeria and obtained a Nigerian passport to make
the switch from England to Nigeria after discussions with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president,
Amaju Pinnick.

He was named in Nigeria’s preliminary 30-man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia before he was
finally dropped on June 4 from the final list.
