Omeruo, Awaziem to work with Aguirre as Leganes unveil Mexican

Super Eagles duo Kenneth Omeruo and Chidozie Awaziem will now work with Javier Aguirre who on Tuesday was unveiled by Spanish La Liga side, Leganes for the remainder of the season.

 

Aguirre was appointed on Monday and will replace Mauricio Pellegrino who was fired on October 21 and the Mexican is expected to hit the ground running immediately.

Luis Cembranos was in drafted as an interim boss after Pellegrino’s dismissal, but according to a release on the club’s official website on Monday, Aguirre has signed a deal that runs through until the end of 2019-20 to become the permanent boss.

Cembranos won just a game from the three league matches he oversaw for Leganes.

“CD. Leganés and Mexican coach Javier Aguirre Onaindia reached an agreement for the Aztec coach to take charge of the pepineros’ bench until the end of the season.

Aguirre served as Egypt head coach for around a year, taking charge of the Pharaohs in 12 games across all competitions

“Aguirre, 60, has a long career, having directed more than 350 games in the First Division. Luis Cembranos will continue directing the second team,” the statement read in part.

Leganes are currently at the bottom of the La Liga log with only one win from 12 league games and the former Osasuna, Atletico Madrid, Real Zaragoza and Espanyol will attempt to get the Madrid out the drop zone.
