Oshoala eyes Champions League glory With Barcelona Ladies

Nigeria and Super Falcons, Asisat Oshoala could enter history books today should Barcelona Ladies win the UEFA Champions League title for the first time as they face defending champions, Olympique Lyon in the final at the Ferencváros Stadion in Budapest.

She would become the first Nigerian female player if she gets to play.

On a six-month loan with the Spanish outfit, Oshoala has been receiving messages of goodwill and support from fans on social media ahead of today’s final.

💪💃In solidarity for our speedster @AsisatOshoala as her Barcelona side seek to clinch #UWCL title in Budapest today. Our hearts and prayers are with you. Go and shine!,” posted a message from the Super Falcons twitter handle.

Oshoala has scored seven goals in nine appearances across all competitions for the club

To reach the final, Barcelona defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 on aggregate.

Head coach, Lluis Cortes is confident they can shock Lyon who are aiming for their fourth consecutive title.

“We are working well in defence, we have the best goalie in the league and if we have the ball they won’t be able to create chances. We might not be as tall as Lyon but we can mitigate that by not conceding corner and set-pieces near the box.

“Lyon have a good quality team but they are not invincible., Chelsea gave them a tough time and last year we only lost to them by one goal in each leg,” he told the club’s website.

The French side won the French championship for the 13th time in a row, without losing a match, scoring 89 goals and conceding just six.
