Rashford surpasses Ronaldo’s record at Manchester United

Marcus Rashford’s goalscoring record after 200 Manchester United games trumps
Cristiano Ronaldo’s.

The academy graduate, 22, brought up his double century for his boyhood club in the
game against Norwich at the weekend.

He netted twice in the 4-0 win over the Premier League’s bottom side and was then
subbed off before having the chance to complete a hat-trick.

The goals were his 63rd and 64th in a Manchester United shirt, meaning he boasts a
far better record than one of the game’s greats.

Rashford has made 137 starts and his 64 goals have come at an average of one every
200 minutes of football.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, made 159 starts in his first 200 appearances, scoring 54 goals
at a rate of 272 minutes per goal.

The Juventus star did manage more assists with 41 compared to the local hero’s 31.

Rashford thought he had become the third-youngest United player to reach the
landmark of 200 appearances.

The striker tweeted his pride at the new milestone, believing he was only behind
Ryan Giggs and George Best at 22 years and eight months.

He typed: “Beyond proud to become the 3rd youngest player to hit 200 @ManUtd games.

“Can’t put into words what it means to follow Giggsy and George Best. Two goals and
three points completes a perfect day.”

The England star made his debut as a last-minute replacement in the Europa League
against Midtjylland in February 2016, netting twice in a 5-1 win as he broke on to
the scene due to injuries in Louis van Gaal’s squad.

But Norman Whiteside’s wife Dee was quick to point out that her husband still holds
the record at 21 years and four months.

She tweeted: “Think my hubby @NormanWhiteside was younger than all three of you in actual fact.”

Rashford added an additional tweet to reference Whiteside while Dee got an apology from United’s official app editor Mark Froggatt, who tweeted: “Hi Mrs. W. Apologies to you and Norm – the research quoted is incorrectly missing him from the list.

“I will update accordingly. I hope you’re having a nice weekend.”
