Rivers reach CAFCC group stage after beating Etoile Filante

Nigeria’s Rivers United are through to the group stage of the CAF Confederation after beating Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso 2-0 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Sunday.

Both teams battled to a 0-0 draw in the first leg two weeks ago.

Rivers United won the second qualifying fixture 2-0 on aggregate.

Stanley Eguma’s side were made to work hard for their victory after missing two spot kicks in the encounter.

Alex Oyowah finally broke the deadlock a minute from time.

Oyowah netted the second from another penalty.

The Port Harcourt club are the only Nigerian club who have reached the mini-league rounds of a continental competition this year after Enyimba, Remo Stars and Bendel Insurance failed to do so.
