Rodgers: Our ambition is to continue improving after each game

Leicester City moved above Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-0 win in north London on Sunday.

Jamie Vardy put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot just before half-time after Serge Aurier’s idiotic foul on Wesley Fofana.

James Maddison thought he’d made it 2-0 straight after half-time but the goal was ruled off for offside by VAR.

However, Brendan Rodgers’ side had their double advantage when Jamie Vardy’s header deflected off Toby Alderweireld for an own goal.

Spurs were coming off the back of a devastating 2-1 loss to Liverpool and provided a lacklustre performance in an important game.

They have now fall down to fifth on the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Liverpool.

Leicester are now in second-place, four points behind Liverpool, but Rodgers doesn’t want his team getting carried away.

“The players have done great. A European campaign, lots of injuries, but they have kept the enthusiasm, spirit and quality, so it is a very pleasing opening third of the season,” said Rodgers.

“The ambition is to continue improving. We won’t get carried away, there is a lot of development to take place in our young players.

“We will see. It has been a really good start, I am satisfied with where we are at, knowing there are improvements to make.”
