Rodgers: Why I refused to bring in Iheanacho against Chelsea

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has opened up on why Kelechi Iheanacho remained on the bench in Sunday’s FA Cup knockout fixture against Chelsea with the Foxes looking for an equaliser.

Speaking in a post-match conference, Rodgers said he still had hopes that Jamie Vardy would get the needed equaliser after Ross Barkley had given the Blues the lead.

“I was just looking at Jamie knowing he still looked fresh,” said Rodgers.

“We felt he (Vardy) could grab a goal, he doesn’t need many opportunities, so it was just waiting for that opportunity for him to come. So it was as simple as that.”

Barkley got the only goal after converting a Willian cross in the 63rd minute of the encounter to set up a semi final clash against Manchester United next month.
