Rohr wants Eagles, U23 Olympic squad in Asaba

Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr has mapped out training programs that can help both the Eagles preparations for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations and most importantly the Olympic Eagles quest to qualify for this year’s Under 23 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON).

The Eagles handler told NationSport exclusively that he is also more concerned about the qualification of the Under 23 national team for the U23 AFCON, a reason why he planned for both teams to train together in June like both teams did in Asaba before the Olympic Eagles destroyed visiting Libya 4-0 in Asaba to qualify for the last round of the 2019 U23 AFCON on 4-2 aggregates having lost the first leg 2-0 against Libya in Tunisia.

Rohr then released four Eagles players that were in the age bracket to help the Imama Amapakabo tutored Olympic Eagles team and the team were able to walloped Libya 4-0 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba to qualify to the next stage on 4-2 goals aggregate.

The players then included Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, Sporting Charleroi of Belgium striker Victor Osimhen, Caykur Rizespor central defender Chidozie Awaziem and Eagles defender who is also the U-20 World Cup bound Flying Eagles team captain Valentine Ozomwafor.

“I think it will very good come June 5rh and 9th (2019) when our Under 23 national team are playing against Sudan in the last round of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations’ qualifiers that we should be around also, I mean the Super Eagles team so that we can help them again like we did when the team defeated Libya in the last match in Asaba”, Rohr told Sportinglife.ng.

The Eagles Manager also explained further why he decided to train with the Olympic Eagles.

“I have thus collaboration with the U23 national team Coach Imama (Amapakabo). He can pick players from my list. I can see players who want to be in my definitive list also. It is very good that one of the two games the U23 national team is playing will be at home and we will be around at that period. It will be very good just like we did in Asaba before the U23 team’s return leg against Libya.
