Ronaldo ends goal drought as Juve draw Sassuolo

Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot to maintain Juventus’ unbeaten record in Serie A, but they were made to sweat for their 2-2 draw against Sassuolo.

Leonardo Bonucci had put the Italian champions ahead on 20 minutes but the lead last barely two minutes as Jeremie Boga’s exquisite finish drew the visitors level.

Francesco Caputo took advantage of a mix-up in the Juventus defence to put Sassuolo ahead two minutes after the restart at the Allianz Arena.

Juve piled forward in search of an equaliser. Ronaldo was first denied an equaliser by VAR before converting a spot kick, sending visiting goalkeeper Stefano Turati the wrong way.

It ended the Portugal forward’s four-match goal drought and denied Sassuolo a first ever victory against the Turin giants.

The result keeps Juve top on 36 points from 14 matches, though Inter Milan can leapfrog them if they win their match against SPAL later on Sunday.
