Ronaldo moves into £3.5k-a-week fishing village home
Cristiano Ronaldo has left his luxury townhouse and moved his family into a £3,500-a-week rented home near a quiet fishing village.
The Juventus striker has reportedly opted for a house in the country with a large garden so he enjoys some more space with his Spanish girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez and their young children.
Ronaldo had been staying in a stunning seven-story apartment complex overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Madeira where he has been on coronavirus lockdown.
He was sensationally branded a “tramp” and ordered to leave Madeira by a politician after photos emerged of the Juventus star out enjoying a family stroll during lockdown.
Madeira-based GP Rafael Macedo launched the unbelievable attack on Facebook after seeing the pictures of Ronaldo going out for a walk on his home island with girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez and their children.
But in a second post, he backtracked, insisting: “My account was hacked. I would never make those low-level comments about our CR7.”
The first clue that the 35-year-old could have moved out of his came with a video he posted on Instagram showing him and Georgina taking turns to sprint up a ramp.
The setting, showing them running up the driveway of a red-roofed house surrounded by a large garden in the middle of nowhere, was quite obviously different from the surroundings of the apartment block in Madeira’s capital Funcha.
Cristiano bought that last year and has spent time there since returning to his native island last month ahead of the suspension of Serie A football.
Respected Portuguese paper Correio da Manha’s magazine Vidas said the player had moved to a detached five-bed home near the fishing village of Canical in the east of Madeira which was costing him £3,500 a week to rent.
The house, said to be “off the beaten track”, is understood to have a games room, gym, pool and large garden where children Ronaldo Jr, nine and twins Eva and Mateo, two, can play with his daughter with Georgina, Alana Martina.
The magazine quoted a source saying: “He felt he needed space, that he was getting a bit stifled inside four walls.
“This new place has a big garden and more privacy of course. Cristiano is very used to having a quiet life.
Cristiano’s mum Dolores Aveiro, who is recovering from a stroke, and his older brother Hugo are understood to have stayed on in Funchal.
They live on lower floors of the seven-storey apartment block the footballer bought last year so he could enjoy the top two floors and its rooftop swimming pool when he was in town.
The lack of privacy Cristiano had by being in Funchal meant that when he went out for a quick walk with his family recently, they were approached by fans and pictures of them were taken which went round the world.
Dolores, 65, showed she was continuing to make a great recovery from her March 3 stroke.
She posted a selfie photo of her looking happy and relaxed on her balcony overlooking the ocean and said: “Good morning to everyone.
“Another day at home and God willing everything is going to be okay.”
Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, has left the family home and returned to Brazil after visiting when Dolores was taken ill.
Canical, a half-hour drive east of Funchal, is home to around 6,000 people. It was the centre of the whaling industry until the early eighties and has a whale museum.

Emanuel Santos, the sculptor behind a bizarre statue of Cristiano which was mocked all over the world after it was unveiled at Madeira’s airport in March 2017, comes from Canical.
One of the sculptures he had crafted before the Ronaldo bust was unveiled, of two fishermen sat in a small fishing boat, is on a roundabout at the entrance to the village.
