Ronaldo wins Best Goal Scorer in Football History award 

Cristiano Ronaldo has won another award after being named Best Goal Scorer in Football History.

The Manchester United striker was not on hand to collect the trophy at the Globe Soccer event in Dubai.

But his agent and friend Jorge Mendes collected it on his behalf.

The 36-year-old has now scored more than 800 career goals, well ahead of his great rivals Lionel Messi.

It sees him overtake Brazil legend Pele as well on official records – though his old club Santos disputes this.

Mendes paid tribute to CR7 on stage at the Armani Hotel in the UAE.

The 55-year-old said: “I think it’s the biggest achievement ever in football.

“It’s amazing. Very difficult to score 800 goals, just CR. I think he’s the only one who could do it. The best player in the world, the best ever.

“Congratulations Cristiano and happy new year for all of you.”

The player himself appeared on a screen in Dubai, as he was busy preparing to play for Manchester United against Newcastle.

But after a laboured performance in a 1-1 draw against the Magpies, he might well wish he was out in the affluent city.

He shared his delight at winning prise on Instagram, writing: “Always beautiful and wonderful Dubai, with it’s amazing architecture and kind people.

“I’m proud to be recognized, year after year, in such an elegant and prestigious event with such a worldwide impact.

“The Dubai Globe Soccer Gala is already one of the most important sports events in the world, and to receive such a meaningful award, for Best Goal Scorer in Football History, is truly one more dream come true.

“Thank you Dubai! I hope to see you soon!”

Ronaldo usually wins an award or two at the yearly event.

Last year he was named Player of the Century, attending with his stunning partner Georgina Rodriguez.

In 2019 he was named Best Player, while in 2018 he secured two prizes for Best Player again, as well as Goal of the Year.
