Salisu is an exceptional player, says Southampton boss Hasenhuttl

Southampton boss, Ralph Hasenhuttl, is delighted with the progress of Mohammed Salisu.

The 22-year-old Ghanaian defender stole the spotlight during the recent 1-1 draw with defending champions Manchester City at St Mary’s.

“This is not something new that we know new players need time to adapt to the Premier League,” Hasenhuttl said, speaking after the draw with title runaway leaders City.

“He had a long problem with not being fit and it took a little bit but we always said to him take his time, he was coming in the first half-year and didn’t train with the team.

“This is hard for a new player when you are in such a situation.”

He continued: “But then you go through and we always spoke about the long-term project we had with him, give him the time to adapt to our game and the time to be fit enough for our game.

“Now you see how strong he is and how good developed we have him.”
