Sane: Why I quit Man City for Bayern Munich; Salihamidzic key

Leroy Sane has explained his decision to quit Manchester City for Bayern Munich.

Germany winger’s move went through earlier this month.

“Hasan Salihamidzic (Bayern sporting director) and his concept played a very important role,” began Sane.

“He was behind the transfer from the first moment and was not put off by anything. I’m grateful for that. He showed me how the club works, which team he has in mind, how it looks. I immediately noticed: I know a lot of boys here, I fit in very well here.”

Sané continued: “The Bayern system actually fits me perfectly. The Bayern game is shaped by wingers, which of course suits me very well. That was a very important point for me.”

Sane joins Bayern for €49m plus up to €11m in bonuses. Before Sané’s cruciate ligament injury in August 2019, a €150 million fee was still under discussion.

“These are numbers that in my eyes no player in the world is worth, there is no question. However, it is certainly not a disadvantage that in the end they paid much less,” says Sané.
