Schumacher’s family buys £2.4m plot to aid F1 star’s recovery

Formula One legend Michael Schumacher’s family have reportedly bought a large plot of land in Majorca.

Island newspaper Diario de Mallorca says they spent £2.4million on the 13 acre plot in March to build stables and “raise and ride horses.”

Michael’s daughter Gina Maria, 24, is an accomplished equestrian and his wife Corinna won the European Championship in western-style horse riding in 2010.

Gina Maria, 24, is in a relationship with Iain Bethke, a show jumper who regularly cheers on his girlfriend during competitions.

The land at the centre of the six-figure purchase is said to be in Puerto Andratx, near a mansion Schumacher’s wife is believed to have purchased in 2017.

Reports earlier this month said Corinna was selling their £6.4million mansion on Lake Geneva in Switzerland as the seven-time world F1 champion continues his recovery from the December 2013 French Alps skiing accident that left him in a medically-induced coma.

Michael and Corinna purchased the Swiss pad, which has been described as “an exceptional property in a quiet and protected location”, for £3million back in 2002.

The land purchase is said to have been made on March 5 after seven members of the same family who had inherited it put it up for sale.

Diario de Mallorca reported on Sunday: “The objective is to raise and ride around 20 horses on it, as Michael Schumacher’s daughter is a keen equestrian.
