Shearer makes Minamino prediction

Takumi Minamino made his Liverpool debut in the third round of the FA Cup on the weekend, as the Reds ran out 1-0 winners over Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield

Alan Shearer says its going to be very difficult for Takumi Minamino to break into Liverpool’s first team – but he’ll be a perfect fit when called upon.

Japanese forward Minamino was signed by Liverpool before the January transfer window opened, after the Reds triggered his £7.25million release clause.

The 24-year-old was registered ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup third round clash with Merseyside rivals Everton, and played 70 minutes in the 1-0 victory at Anfield.

Liverpool have the best front three of any club in world football in Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, meaning Minamino has a tough job breaking into the first team.

Shearer drew attention to this while discussing the recent transfer but added the Japanese is a perfect fit for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp likes adaptable players, and Minamino is more than capable of playing in a few positions up front and in midfield.
