Snooker and Pool players alliance takes challenge to Lagos Bars

Snooker and Pool Players Alliance SPPA has announced it will be introducing the Snooker and Pool Bar Circuit (SPPBC) into its 2020 calendar of events.

The Bar circuit will comprises 4 tournament series; Inter- Bar Eight Ball Challenge, Inter-Bar Snooker Challenge, Inter-Bar Eight Ball Team Challenge and the Inter-Bar Snooker Team Challenge.

With 20 bars shortlisted for the maiden edition of the SPPBC, the Inter-Bar Eight Ball Challenge Tour is restricted to only bars located in Lagos state. The tour comprise of 8 events featuring the highest ranked player in each of the participating bars.

Amongst the shortlisted bars include Dreamworld Snooker and Pool Bar Lekki, Nicon Town Pool Lekki, 8 Ball Lounge Alausa, Folix, Westend Bar Ikeja, and king Sizes Oregun.

Others include Tiger Active Sports Sangotedo-Ajah, Sahwnz Bar V/I, Roof Top lekki, Ediye Lekki, Troy Lekki, Cue Sticks Lekki, Rufus and Bee Lekki, Salad Garden Oko-Oba, Masters Bar Akowonjo and Happiness bar Egbeda.etc

Amongst the players competing include SPPA highest ranked player Ebulue Daniel from Dreamworld Snooker and Pool Bar, Obarho Obrutse from Nicon Town Pool.

A N1.6 million total prize of N 1.6 million naira shall be on offer with N 200,000 thousand naira to be won in each event. 1st prize – N100,000, 2nd Prize – N50,000, 3rd and 4th prizes – N25,000 each.

Bars having a leader board/ladder based on the Cue Sports Management and Players Ranking system, a computerize point based ranking system is a qualification requirements for bars to participate in the circuit.

SPPA President Idada Joachim in his words,“ The SPPA is committed to developing Snooker and Pool as sports as such a circuit amongst bars that is built on a transparent ranking structure will encourage players to focus on the sorting aspect rather than the attraction for gambling amongst players that is currently going on in the game”

The new events will also availed SPPA an affiliate of the International Chinese Eight Ball Association (ICEA) to feature in the maiden world championship to be hosted by South Africa according to Idada.

“With the postponement of the ICEA Chinese Eight Ball Pool which was scheduled to hold in Durban, South Africa from the earlier 24th -29th March 2020 to August because of the Coronavirus, the circuit will further assist us when selecting the players to be invited trials and qualification event.

It was also announced that an online television based in Lagos, ASENTV has acquired the media and coverage right which include the right for delayed broadcast of the all the events in the bar circuit.
