South Africa made it difficult for Eagles-Rohr

Coach Gernot Rohr has praised South Africa for giving his players a good fight, even though it was Nigeria that picked the qualification ticket for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The Eagles secured 10 points to top Group E after pulling a 1-1 draw with South Africa today at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg with a game to spare.

He also said the team played to win while also avoiding injuries.

“We played to win, but also didn’t want to take any risks,” Rohr said after the game.

“South Africa are a very good team and in the second half, they made it very difficult for us after we started the game very well.

The Eagles are expected in the wee hours of Sunday in Nigeria and head straight to Asaba to prepare for Tuesday’s international friendly against Uganda.

Nigeria will tackle whipping boys Seychelles who only have a point in the group in March next year.
