Spanish FA set to re-appoint former boss as Moreno walks away in tears

Roberto Moreno reportedly burst into tears as he said goodbye to Spain’s players after being axed for Luis Enrique.

The Spaniards hammered Romania 5-0 to continue a blistering run of form having already qualified for Euro 2020.

But Moreno, who was named manager after Enrique stood down to look after his terminally ill daughter, has been ditched, according to reports in Spain.

AS claims the Spanish FA will officially sack him today, Tuesday, November 19 to pave the way for their former boss to come back.

Moreno, 42, won seven of nine matches as national boss but did not appear before the media after completing Spain’s qualification campaign.

The Spanish squad were reportedly stunned by the news as their leader wished them all the best for next year’s tournament.

Enrique’s daughter Zana passed away from cancer aged nine in August – two months after the then Spain boss stood down to be with his family.

And the Barcelona legend, 49, has apparently decided he wants to resume control for Euro 2020.
After Monday’s win, La Roja striker Saul Niguez confirmed that the squad believe in Moreno, who was Enrique’s No2 before taking the top job.
