Super Eagles star back in training with top Turkish club

Super Eagles defender,Ogenyi Onazi, is back to his feet and has resumed training with the Turkish side, Trabzonspor after a major injury setback that has kept him out of action for ten months.

The Nigerian suffered an Achilles tendon problem and underwent surgery in December 2018.

The 26-year-old joined his teammates in training on Tuesday under the supervision of the club doctor Hakan Ayaz, and he is eager to return to the squad.

“Onazi felt some pain in his muscle in the last two days, so he needs more time to recover,” his agent Ayo Makinwa told Sports Extra.

“He is eager to return and play for the team but that is up to the coach to decide how to re-introduce him into the team.

“Hopefully, he (Onazi) should be ready for the game against Alanyaspor or Ankaragucu.”

Onazi, who joined Trabzonspor in 2016, has made 77 appearances scoring seven goals and making four

Meanwhile, Turkish Super Lig club are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of Leicester City midfielder, Daniel Amartey, as a possible replacement for Ogenyi Onazi ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Turkish newspaper Star, Trabzonspor are in desperate need of a central midfielder as Onazi is still on the sidelines after picking up an Achilles injury at the start of the 2018/19 season.

Star are of the belief that Karadeniz Firtinasi are looking at various options in the market and Amartey has emerged as a possible option.

Amartey has fallen out of favour at King Power Stadium as manager Brendan Rodgers has been choosing Wilfried Ndidi as his defensive midfielder.

According to the report, Trabzonspor are eager to approach Leicester with a loan offer for Amartey as they are reportedly impressed with his ability to be versatile in his style of play.

The Ghana international’s contract with the Foxes is set to expire in June 2022.
