Three-bedroom apartment donation from the Federal Government.

Jo described the building gift as a “big surprise.”

He expressed excitement over the apartment and commended the Minister of Power Works and Housing,
Babatunde Fashola for the kind gesture.

Speaking at the frontage of the prototype housing scheme situated along Kuje Road, in Gwagwalada Area
Council, Abuja, he applauded the federal government for fulfilling it’s promise.

Jo, who also headed the Nation’s Olympic Football team in 1996 noted that the Federal Government under
leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari kept the promise of former military Head of State, General
Sanni Abacha.

His words: “I appreciate the government for what it has done today. It has kept the promise of the
former governments. I appreciate the Minister. He is a nice person and I hope to meet him this
afternoon.”

Asked if he will move into the apartment, he responded that he was only visiting the country for two
days but will think and decide on what to do.

“We will see in the future because I’m just here for two days. As the Minister has given me this house,
I have no plan at this moment but I have to think about it. It is a surprise for me. It’s a big
surprise.” He said.

Earlier, the Director of Public Building, Builder Dickson Onoja led Jo to the Three-bedroom apartment.

He said the visit was to show the former coach the building and for him to show his acceptance while
the Minister does the official handling over of the keys to the Coach.

“The period of sport in our nation between 1990 and 1996 was when Nigeria won most significant laurels
which climax the 1996 Olympic Gold football medal won by Mr. Bonfrere Jo, who was in charge of the
Olympic football team.

“Two years earlier, Nigeria for the first time won the African Cup of Nation away from the home soil.
Mr. Bonfrere Jo was the Assistant Technical Adviser. He worked with Clement Westerof in far away
Tunisia,” Onoja said.

He added that the then, “government head of state, Gen. Sani Abacha announced a reward package for the
team including allocation of three-bedroom apartment to Mr. Bonfrere Jo in appreciation of the
achievement but as we know, the house was never released until this administration of President Buhari
which approval was given to Mr. Jo.”
