Troy Deeney Takes Action on Social Media After Racist Abuse

Watford’s Troy Deeney is the latest player to vocalise his frustrations with regards to racist abuse, after the striker was the victim of vile comments on Instagram in the aftermath of his side’s FA Cup semi-final victory.

The English man played a pivotal role in his side’s victory on Sunday afternoon, scoring a late penalty to send the game to extra-time before a sensational Gerard Deulofeu winner sealed Watford’s passage through to the final. Unfortunately for Deeney, the win came at a cost.

As a result of the abuse, Deeney took the decision to disable comments under posts. The move comes off the back of a surge in racist incidents in world football.

Tottenham forward Son Heung-min also spoke today about his experiences regards racism after his teammate, Danny Rose, was subject to racist abuse from Montenegro fans during England’s clash with the Balkan state recently.

Meanwhile, Italian football became embroiled in similar controversy last week after Moise Kean reacted to abuse from the stand in Juventus’ encounter with Cagliari, before being partially blamed for the incident by his teammate Leonardo Bonucci.
