Tuchel ‘mission impossible’

Thomas Tuchel reportedly feels he has a ‘mission’ to complete in the Premier League after it was confirmed that he will leave Bayern Munich this summer.

Tuchel is keen on a return to England and it is believed that taking charge at Manchester United would be his dream job.

According to reports on Thursday, Tuchel sees the United manager’s job as ‘appealing’ and he can ‘well imagine’ himself taking charge at Old Trafford.

The 50-year-old was Chelsea’s head coach from January 2021 to September 2022 and recently admitted that he felt more appreciated in England than in Germany.

During Tuchel’s tenure at Stamford Bridge, the west Londoners won the Champions League, Club World Cup and Super Cup.

The German, who has been linked with the West Ham job, also guided Chelsea to two FA Cup finals as well as a runner-up finish in the Carabao Cup.

But Tuchel had a frosty relationship with the Chelsea hierarchy, who took over from Roman Abramovich in May 2022.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is said to have described Tuchel as a ‘nightmare’ to deal with over recruitment.

Despite a record of 60 wins, 24 draws and 16 defeats – with a win percentage of 60 per cent – Tuchel was sacked and replaced by Graham Potter.

It proved to be a hugely unpopular decision with Chelsea fans, who were still chanting Tuchel’s name four months after his dismissal.
