U-17 AFCON: I have absolute confidence in my team, says Ugbade

Coach Nduka Ugbade has backed the Golden Eaglets to be crowned African champions again in Algeria on their way to winning a record-extending sixth U17 World Cup.

This comes at a time the team will fly out to Germany on a training tour next week Wednesday enroute to Algeria for the U17 AFCON, which kicks off on April 29.

“I have confidence in the squad we have been able to build, even as we are still utilizing every minute, every hour to tinker with what we have and see how it can get better,” Ugbade said.

“We have a tough act to follow in that Nigeria has won the World Cup five times in this category, and nothing we do will be seen as special.

“However, we know that if we can win the Africa Cup, it will be a stepping stone to joining the great squads that have won the World Cup for Nigeria.”

Officials have now told SCORENigeria the Eaglets will depart for a training tour of Germany on April 19, 10 days before the U17 AFCON kicks off in Algeria.

The Eaglets are drawn with South Africa, Zambia and Morocco in the first round of the AFCON.
