Despite crashing out in the round of 16 of the just ended FIFA women World cup in Australia and New Zealand, Super Falcons earned a place in the top 10  in ranking of the 32 teams that participated. The Randy Waldrum tutored side equally finished the group stage unbeaten before proceeding to the knockout stage

The 2023 Women’s World Cup tournament concluded on Sunday, August 20, 2023, with Spain claiming victory over the Lionesses of England in the final, securing their first-ever title.

Spain’s triumph in the Women’s World Cup marked a historic milestone, as they became the second nation to achieve success in both the Men’s and Women’s World Cups.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, FIFA ranked the participating teams based on their performance. However, there’s a twist in this ranking method.

Teams that were eliminated at the same stage of the competition are evaluated based on the circumstances of their elimination. The Super Falcons finished in the 9th place in the top 10 relegating top teams Germany, Brazil, Portugal, and Italy.

The Onome Ebi captained sides also proudly stand ahead of fellow African participants, making them the highest-ranked team from the continent. Recall that Falcons opened campaign at the world cup with a draw against Olympic Champions Canada, drew with debutants Republic of Ireland and went on to defeat eventual fourth place finishers Australia before losing nail biting round of 16 battling against finalists England.

The top 10 teams in the Women’s World Cup rankings has Champions Spain at the zenith, followed by England, Sweden, Australia, Japan, France, the Netherlands, Colombia, the USA, and Nigeria. The remaining African ambassadors South Africa, Morocco, and Zambia finished in the 13th, 16th and 27th positions in that order. It will be the first time the Women world cup would feature 32 teams.
