W/Cup play-off flop: Uzoho promises to improve

 

As sports loving Nigerians and stakeholders continue to rue the World cup ticket miss, Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has afford apologies over his poor show leading to victory for the Black Stars at the Abuja Stadium.

Uzoho who conceded a cheap goal early in the match though Eagles managed to grab inconsequently equaliser said he will work hard to bring back smile on the faces of Nigerians.

Taking to social media, the Athletic Club Omonoia Nicosia of Cyprus goalkeeper revealed that it has been a nightmare for him since the match and the mayhem that followed it.

“This past couple of days has been worst in my lifetime. I wanted to take my nation to Qatar but rather did the opposite. I know what football means to you all and to myself, I can’t promise not to make mistakes again, but I can promise not to give up until I bring back the smile on your faces. Thank You for the support and God bless” he said

It may however take some time for the smile to return as the nation will have to wait for the next four years to attempt to play at the World Cup again after the last outing in Russia in 2018.  The next big thing will probably be qualification for the next Nations cup in Cote d Ivoire. The Eagles exited the Nations cup just the same way via a cheap goal scored by Tunisia who are among the five countries flying the continent’s flag in Qatar.

Some soccer fans who irked by Nigeria’s failure to earn a ticket but happy with recent sacking of the entire technical crew, say only a serious minded coach who must have his contract spelled out should be engaged.

Any coach engaged henceforth according to those who spoke with Sportinglife.ng should not limit his job to inviting ready-made foreign based players but must make time to watch the local league with a view to picking a few ‘hungry’ players that can be injected into the national team.

Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, Morocco and Tunisia are the five Africa Countries whose flags have already been hoisted in Qatar ahead of the World Cup from November to December.
