West Brom held by lowly Stoke in Championship
West Bromwich Albion’s bid to consolidate a Championship play-off place was dented by a frustrating 1-1 draw against struggling Stoke on Sunday.
Lynden Gooch gave Stoke a surprise lead after 12 minutes at the Hawthorns when his cross sailed over the head of goalkeeper Alex Palmer and into the net via the crossbar.
West Brom’s Brandon Thomas-Asante equalised in the 35th minute, smashing a fine volley into the bottom corner of the net after Okay Yokuslu’s shot was deflected into his path.

Albion sit fifth in the second tier table, but relegation-threatened Stoke will be the happier of the two sides.
Stoke moved three points above the bottom three despite their winless run extending to eight league matches.
