Wilder team inform Fury camp they intend to activate rematch clause

Deontay Wilder’s team have told Frank Warren they intend to call an immediate rematch between the Gypsy King and his rival.

Tyson Fury stopped Wilder in a magnificent performance in their Las Vegas rematch, repeatedly flooring the Bronze Bomber before the towel was throw in during the seventh round.

Wilder will feel he can do better

The contract for the second fight included a rematch clause, which gave the loser the right to a third bout.

Wilder has 30 days to make an official decision, but his co-manager Shelly Finkel called Warren on Sunday morning to inform Team Fury of their current thinking.

‘Shelly Finkel rang me the morning after the fight to tell me they would probably invoke the immediate rematch,’ Warren told Metro.co.uk.

‘So that’s where we’re at right now. I’m assuming that the trilogy fight is going ahead.’

Fury paid tribute to Wilder after another memorable clash with the previously undefeated American. Wilder never recovered from a third-round knockdown and had blood pouring from his left ear by the end of the fight.

TV cameras caught what Fury told a dazed Wilder once the fight had been stopped.

‘What a fighter, what a fighter you are. Anybody you land on..,’ Fury said.

‘Let me tell you something, in that right round, dynamite. God bless you and your family.’

Despite a dominant performance, Fury said he was prepared to fight Wilder a third time.

‘Deontay will need some time to recover from this fight.

‘I’m sure sure he’ll take the rematch because he’s a dynamite puncher. Pretty sure we’ll do it again.

‘Whoever’s next will get the same treatment.’
